Top 5 of 2011: Aaron Sainz

Aaron Sainz of Team Science records drawn by Mitch ClemAaron Sainz runs the awesome record label Team Science out of Houston, TX. Team Science has released records by The Energy, Franz Nicolay, Matt & Kim, The Sidekicks, The Measure [SA] and others.

I met Aaron at Chaos in Tejas. We talked Olympia music over lunch by food trucks.

  1. THE MEN  – Live at Rudyards
The best show I saw all year. Leave Home (Sacred Bones) is an almost perfect record.
  2. BALACLAVAS – “Snake People” Record Release
Dull Knife released this monster earlier this year. If you’re unfamiliar with these guys I highly encourage you to take a minute and listen to this record. The best LP to come out of Houston in 2011.
  3. WEIRD PARTY – “Honey Slides b/w Sarah Palin” Record Release
An essential Houston release by possible my favorite TX band. (Sex & Death)
  4. MILK MUSIC w/BLACK CONGRESS – Live at Rudyards
After months of spinning “Beyond Living” (Perennial) – my favorite record of 2011, I finally got to witness the mighty Milk Music live. This led to a slew of Olympia bands: WHITE BOSS, BROKEN WATER and GUN OUTFIT occupying my now playing box.
  5. TITAN BLOOD – “Too Much Talk” Record Release
Houston’s Titan Blood released my favorite local single of the year. Equal parts FREESTONE and REAGAN YOUTH. (self-released TB Collective)

got an update about one of these bands?
