Broken Water, Hysterics, Polly Darton, Hell Woman, Vegetable!, Firebrand (New Orleans, LA), Margy Pepper played June 24th, 2011 at Dumpster Values in Olympia, WA.
It’s pretty great when they set up the big tent in Dumpster Values and have shows. You enter through Phantom City records and then cruise through the vintage clothes over to the tent in Dumpster Values. They string up a bunch of lights and the bands are always picking new angles to play from. Super groovy.
I got to see Firebrand, Margy Pepper and Polly Darton at this show, and grabbed a video of Firebrand…
I thought this was Firebrand, but someone told me the band was called Vegetable! The show was cool.
Margy Pepper played next. I think these girls do all the cool shows at Grandma’s house, but I haven’t met them yet. They’ve been playing low-fi pop-punk for a couple of years around Olympia. You can pick up a tape from K records or read an interview with them in Olympia Power and Light. While you’re at K, you should pick up the Weird TV 7″ and the Hysterics cassette if you want to check out other Oly up-and-comers.
Polly Darton closed out the show with a collaborative all-female performance art type blowout. Six guitarists + drums slowly noodled forward backing a spastic set of howling floorwork by a girl I don’t know. It seemed pretty improvised and didn’t include any Superconductor covers.
Then I ran over to the Northern to see if I could catch any of the show there, but no dice.
