Interview: Chris Bauermeister

Known as the bass player for Jawbreaker, Chris Bauermeister is currently living in Olympia, WA and playing in the local supergroup Mutoid Men. He was formerly in the Olympia band Shorebirds, also with Matt Canino (RVIVR, Latterman).

Mutoid Men are Joe, Jeff, Chris and Matt  from Olympia, WA. Their album, on Rumbletowne Records, is called Mutoid World.

Chris is a hugely earnest  and wonderful guy. He and Lucy, an impeccably stylish couple, are often downtown in Olympia checking out shows. Lucy’s clothing site on Etsy is called Hissy Fit.

In this 30 minute interview, Chris wanders through a number of topics, including his current project Mutoid Men, his theory of what makes a good song, his background in punk, and a large amount of Jawbreaker history. It’s great from start to finish… and I can’t thank Chris enough for taking the time in the studio to record this.

Chris joined us for a radio show in May 2011. You can read the playlist and listen to his set. There are awesome photos of Mutoid Men‘s show with forgetters, Street Eaters here by Ryan OLYWA, too.
